Langley-Walnut Grove MLA Misty Van Popta Endorses Iain Black, Cites Economic Fear Gripping Families

LANGLEY, BC – Langley-Walnut Grove MLA Misty van Popta today endorsed Iain Black for Leader of the BC Conservative Party, citing the economic anxiety gripping families and businesses across the Fraser Valley and calling Black the only candidate with the experience to turn British Columbia's finances around.

"People are scared about the economic outlook of this province," said van Popta. "A $13.3 billion deficit. Twenty thousand jobs lost in a single month. Businesses are drowning in red tape. Families who cannot keep up. This did not happen by accident – and it will not fix itself. We need a leader who has actually turned things around before. That leader is Iain Black."

"Iain Black is the only candidate in this race who has served in Cabinet, sat on the Treasury Board, and run major organizations in both the public and private sectors," said van Popta. "The economic challenges facing British Columbia are serious. Experience Matters – and right now it matters more than ever."

Black is the only candidate in the BC Conservative leadership race with both Cabinet and private sector executive experience. The membership deadline for the leadership vote is April 18, 2026. Voting takes place May 28–29, with the new leader announced May 30.
