PORT MOODY, BC — One of Canada’s most respected conservative voices and former federal cabinet minister, the Honourable James Moore, is throwing his full support behind Iain Black for Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia and future Premier - calling him the candidate best prepared to lead and deliver results.
Moore, who served at the highest levels of government and brings decades of political and private sector experience, said British Columbia is at a turning point — and cannot afford to get it wrong.
“British Columbia does not need a learning curve - it needs leadership,” said Moore. “We’re going in the wrong direction, and we cannot sustain it. Iain Black has the right mix of experience in government and the private sector, and I do not believe being Premier of this province is a rookie job. Experience matters - and Iain Black is ready.”
Moore underscored his deep personal connection to British Columbia and concern about the province’s direction.
“I’ve been a British Columbian all my life. It’s where I call home. I was born in New Westminster, raised in Coquitlam, went to university in Prince George. My father is from Victoria. I live in Port Moody. My family - all of my extended family - we are proud British Columbians. But we’re really worried. We’re worried about where this province is going. We’re going in the wrong direction. We need a new beginning as a province. We need new leadership. And that’s why I’m supporting Iain Black.”
Moore emphasized that the challenges facing British Columbia demand experienced leadership grounded in both public and private sector understanding.
“I don’t believe being Premier of British Columbia is a rookie job. And I don’t believe people without real private sector experience fully understand what it takes to move this province forward given the challenges we face.”
He added that the party must grow and unite to win - and that Black is the candidate who can do it.
“We need someone who will grow and broaden the Conservative Party - someone who invites people in, not pushes them away. Someone who understands what it takes to succeed in politics and in government. Iain is the most prepared, and the most ready to be Premier of this province. I am supporting Iain Black to be the next leader of the Conservative Party - and the next Premier of British Columbia.”
Moore’s endorsement carries significant weight across conservative and business communities, reflecting a deep understanding of what it takes to govern - and to win.
Black said he is proud to have the support of a leader with Moore’s experience and credibility.
“To have the endorsement of James Moore — someone who has served at the highest levels of government and understands what serious leadership looks like — is incredibly meaningful,” said Black. “This campaign is about experience, results, and getting British Columbia back on track. That’s exactly what I will deliver for British Columbians.”
As British Columbia faces mounting challenges - from affordability to economic uncertainty - this is a defining moment for the party and the province, and the need for experienced leadership has never been greater.
