How to Verify Your Identity

A step-by-step guide for Conservative Party of BC members

Before you can vote in the leadership election, you need to verify your identity online. This is a simple process that takes about 5 minutes and can be done on your phone or computer. You only need to do it once.

At a Glance

  • Verification opens: April 27, 2026 - email links sent to each Member starting at 12:00pm.
  • Deadline to verify: May 20, 2026 at 11:59 pm PT
  • Time required: approximately 5 minutes
  • Works on: phone, tablet, or computer

What You Will Need

Before you begin, make sure you have the following ready:

  • Government-issued photo ID — your ID must confirm your full name, photo, and current address. A single document can satisfy all three requirements, or you can use two documents together (for example, a Canadian passport for your name and photo, plus a BC Hydro bill for your address).
  • List of accepted documents: conservativebc.ca/leadership-verification-faqs/
  • A device with a camera

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Check your email for your verification link

Starting April 27, 2026, you will receive an email from the BC Conservative Party with your verification link.

This email contains your personal verification link. Click the link to begin.

Tip: If you do not see the email by April 29, check your spam or junk folder. Search for emails from helpdesk@conservativebc.ca.
2

Open the verification page

Clicking the link will open a secure webpage powered by Persona, the identity verification service used by the Conservative Party of BC.

You do not need to create an account or remember a password.

3

Provide your ID

You will be asked to upload or photograph your government-issued ID.

Tip: Make sure your ID is well-lit and the text is clearly visible. Blurry or dark photos are the most common reason verification fails.
4

Take a selfie

You will be asked to take a selfie. This selfie will be verified against the photo identification you submit to prevent fraud, and will be stored during the verification process to ensure that a person does not try to vote more than once.

Tip: Use the front-facing camera on your phone in a well-lit room. Remove glasses if prompted.
5

Further identification

You may be asked to provide further identification to confirm your Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency, such as a Canadian Passport, NEXUS card, PR card, or birth certificate. You may also be asked to provide further identification to confirm your residential address, such as a BC Hydro statement.

✓ Once verified, your voting credentials will be sent to your email starting May 9, 2026.
6

Minors

Anyone under the age of 18 will be asked to provide an email address for their parent or guardian to consent to the collection of the minor’s personal data.

7

Submit and wait for confirmation

Once you have completed all steps, submit your verification. You will see a confirmation of your submission on your screen.

8

Next steps

If your verification is successful, you will receive an email letting you know that your verification is complete and your voting credentials will be sent via email starting on May 9. Voting then opens on May 23.

If there are any issues with your submission, it will be automatically sent for Adjudication by the neutral Returning Officer. The Returning Officer will review the documents you provide and either accept or reject your verification credentials.

If your submission is accepted, you will receive an email letting you know that your verification is complete.

If your submission is rejected, you will receive an email with brief reasons as to why. You will then have the opportunity to re-try verifying your identity up until verification closes on May 20.

After You Verify

Once your identity has been successfully verified:

  • If you verify on or before May 7, your voting credentials will be emailed to you on May 9, 2026.
  • If you verify between May 8 to May 14, your credentials will be emailed to you May 15.
  • If you verify between May 15 to May 20, your credentials will be emailed to you May 22.
  • Voting opens on May 23, 2026 at 8:00 am PT and closes May 29, 2026 at 8:00 am PT. A separate guide on how to cast your vote will be provided.
